Three youths arrested in connection with assault on Navan teenager

Gardai have this morning arrested three youths in connection with the assault on a Navan teenager last Monday.

The three 15 year old males are being detained in Navan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardai from Navan investigating the attack on the 14-year-old school student made the arrests, having notified the families concerned.

The shocking attack, which happened on a green area, in a nearby housing estate was filmed and widely shared on social media and garda investigations are ongoing into the assault.

The 14-year-old victim was treated for serious facial injuries in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and suffered a number of broken teeth as well as bruising around his face and neck and a concussion.

The horrifying incident, which is being classified by Gardai as a hate crime, has prompted widespread condemnation including from Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and was also raised in the Dáil.

Gardai are asking members of the public not to share the video, which went viral on social media after a video of the sickening attack was shared online

The victim of the attack was a second year student at Navan's Beaufort College and the school's patron body, LMETB has confirmed that the services of NEPS has been made available to the school.
