Cllr Kelly to chair B'Boro-Cootehill MD

Fianna Fáil’s Clifford Kelly has been elected new chairman of the Bailieborough-Cootehill Municipal District Authority.

Aontú councillor Sarah O’Reilly, meanwhile, was elevated to the position of vice chair of the district. Both appointments were made by unanimous vote during the AGM of the MD in Cavan Council Chamber on Monday.

Grateful for his colleagues’ support Cllr Kelly said: “I look forward to working with each and every one of you.”

The Fianna Fáil representative also voiced his excitement at working alongside the council executive, and his intention to “try to get as much out of them as I can”.

“It’s good we can work together for the betterment of our community,” he concluded.

Congratulating her colleague, Cllr Sarah O’Reillly and said the district is in a “safe pair of hands when it comes to getting funding for roads in all our areas”.

All councillors at the meeting welcomed Cllr Kelly’s appointment. Outgoing chair of the Municipal District, Aiden Fitzpatrick spoke fondly of his “busy 12 months” before passing the baton to Cllr Kelly.

Cllr Fitzpatrick reflected his tenure had “sowed the seeds” in addressing complaints about Station Road in Cootehill.

All councillors thanked the Fianna Fáil man for his work while Sinn Féin Councillor Paddy McDonnald wished him the best of luck.

“I look forward to working with you for the next year and we don’t know what will happen after that,” he said referring to the looming local election.
