Townhall Street is closed as part of the 'Destination Towns' revamp.

Townhall Street closed for public realm works

Rose garden to be extended as part of revamp

Townhall Street and its car park in Cavan Town will be closed for the best part of a month to allow planned public realm works to be undertaken.

The closure is in place from Monday, June 26 until Friday, July 21, with the aim of transforming Cavan Town centre to make it more attractive to tourists.

Cavan County Council secured funding totalling €750,000 from various streams to transform the area in and around the Town Hall.

The plans are being delivered as part of Fáilte Ireland’s ‘Destination Towns’ initiative, which aims to boost the attractiveness and tourism appeal of major towns nationwide.

The refurbishment at the intersection of Town Hall Street and Farnham Street is part of a wider project aimed at rejuvenating the historic part of Cavan Town, while also promoting pedestrian access to its central core.

The existing public toilet block at the Town Hall has already been demolished to make way for an outdoor performance space; and the rose garden is set to be extended, with 15 parking spaces relocated.

An integrated pedestrian crossing point will also be installed adjacent to the Town Hall, and new street furniture, signage, and a specially commissioned mural will be added.
