Work constructing the stage for the Boomtown Rats continues at the Egg Market, Cavan.

The stage is set for Cavan Calling

FESTIVAL Cavan Calling runs from Thursday through to Sunday

The stage is set and the county’s doors flung wide open to welcome in all and sundry as the sense of anticipatation of Cavan Calling builds.

Much of the exictement has been generated by the Boomtown Rats promising to put in a thrilling performance when they take to the Egg Market for a free outdoor concert.

All things under their control, barring the weather, have been organised by the County Council for this exciting four day celebration of the county, its vibrant people, storied history, and unique landscape.

Extravaganza

From east and west, and in plenty of towns and villages in between, families and friends from near, not-so-near, and very far afield will travel back to the bosom of Breffni to enjoy and participate in the cultural extravaganza running July 27-30.

With on-street concerts, exhibitions, culinary events, music, song, dance and so much more, Cavan Calling looks to highlight on a global scale the exceptional creative talent the county has to offer.

On the appointed ‘Cavan Day’, Saturday 29, all eyes and ears are on legendary rockers The Boomtown Rats, featuring Ballyjamesduff’s Patrick Cusack (aka Pete Briquette). Their concert in front of 2,700 revellers will serve as the centrepiece to proceedings, performing classics such as ‘Rat Trap’ ‘Lookin’ and ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’.

Elsewhere there’s a Military Show at the county museum, the acclaimed Famine play ‘In the Midst of Plenty’ at Cavan Townhall, a special two-day Ancestry and Genealogy Conference, and the centenary celebrations at Kingspan Breffni, home of Cavan GAA, to welcome Cavan’s Diaspora back home.
