Work starts on €6m St Brigid’s Terrace revamp

Crosserlough Construction contracted for project.

Site preparation works have started ahead of 20 new homes being built at St Brigid’s Terrace in Cavan Town.

At a cost of more than €6 million, Crosserlough Construction have been contracted to demolish eight existing derelict and vacant properties - two bungalows and six terraced houses - overlooking Dublin Road, and replace them with 20 modern energy efficient homes.

The build comprises of two separate three-storey split level blocks- the first containing six one-bed apartments over six two-bed duplex apartments; and the second containing four two-bed duplex apartments over four one-bed apartments.

Construction is expected to take 18 months to complete.

It’s one of several ambitious housing projects coming to fruition in the county, all assigned to local development companies.

The €4.3m development of 20 units as part of Phases 1 and 2 at Black Ridge in Ballyconnell was built by Peadar, Andrew and Paul Fay; and 15 more units to the value of €3.3m were completed at Flemings Place, Ballinagh by Jimmy, Leigh and Kevin Jackson, Sandar Construction.

An additional six units costing €1.2m were built at Eanach Lao, Butlersbridge by Crosserlough Construction.

JJ McCauley Construction Ltd from Kill meanwhile recently signed a contract to carry out the €800,000 conversion of Belturbet’s former Duckin’ Stool pub and the delivery of three self-contained apartments in its place.

Also in Belturbet, Part 8 planning was granted in respect of plans to demolish six existing single storey dwellings and develop a residential scheme comprising of nine fully serviced dwelling units at Widow’s Row, Belturbet.

The housing projects are pushed forward by Cavan County Council as part of their commitment to hit a target of 490 new builds over the lifetime of the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ plan, up to 2030.

Tenders are due to be issued in respect of 45 units at Pairc na Teile at Beckscourt in Bailieborough, while 11 units in the Ashgrove Estate in Ballyjamesduff, along with eight more housing units at Portaliffe in Killeshandra. All three housing projects are progressing through design phase at present.
