SVdP look to develop Bridge Street site

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Cavan Town has submitted an application outlining plans to redevelop a former night shelter as a suite of new apartments.

The application was submitted earlier this month to Cavan planners, and consists of the conversion and refurbishment of the existing two-storey Waterside apartment building at 29 Bridge Street.

The existing property layout includes 10 one bedroom night shelter apartments.

After almost thirty years of service to the people of the region, what was known as St. Peter’s Night Shelter, closed for the final time in 2014.

The application will see the property redeveloped to incorporate two two-bed apartments and four one-bed sheltered apartments, together with all associated site works.

Cavan’s Craftstudio Architecture were commissioned by the SVdP to carry out a design for the project.

The site is currently zoned as Town Core within the current Cavan County Development Plan 2022-28.

The apartments at ground floor level will each have their own private access doors and the apartments at first floor level can be accessed by a joined protected stairway.

The apartments at the ground floor will also have a private open outdoor space located at the rear, while the upper floor units will have a private balcony accessible from the main living space or main bedroom.

A decision is due in September.
