Midweek mini festival celebrates Cavan's talent

COTTAGE MARKET Crafts, arts, drama and cuisine amongst the attractions in Ballyconnell

The best of local cuisine, culture, art and music will be served up in Ballyconnell this week, as Cottage Market Cavan host 'The Feast of Cavan’s Folk.'

Set for Lizzie Buggies Bar tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13 from 6- 10pm, this event seeks to showcase the county's skills and talents and provide support to towns and villages, midweek.

Their featured crafter for this week is Leona Fay, hailing from Stradone, who will be showcasing her exceptional skills in wood turning. The Arts Corner will bring together the combined talents of Jonty and Jackie O'Neill, well known and highly regarded in the Cavan art scene.

Meanwhile the 'Forgotten Skills' corner will host two local talents - Megi from Killeshandra Gourmet Mushrooms and Josg from Bog Boy Booch from 6–8pm in the alcove in Lizzie Buggies Courtyard.

Megi will bring the mushrooms in their growing media and explain the growing and harvesting process. Meanwhile Josg will demonstrate how to make a herbal tonic that is used to boost immunity tonic called Fire cider. The basic recipe combines horseradish with root vegetables, like ginger, garlic, turmeric, onions, and herbs which are then fermented in apple cider vinegar.

There will also be a 40-minute drama performance by two local artists in collaboration with The Cottage Market Cavan and a Céilí Room featuring a host of local talented musicians and a 'Food Swap'.

The Feast of Cavan’s Folk runs on Wednesday, September 13 from 6-10pm at Lizzie Buggies Bar, Church Street, Ballyconnell H14 FV50. It is a free event, and the venue is wheelchair accessible, dog-friendly and there's parking available.
