Christmas lights vehicle run

Coláiste Dún an Rí will host a Christmas lights vehicle run on Sunday, December 10 to raise funds for Aidlink, a charity working to battle poverty in Africa.

Anthony Mulligan, a teacher in the school who is organising the run, explains more about the event.

“We hope to travel to Uganda in 2025 with 30 kids to do charity work. We’ll bring transition year and fifth-year students, to do an immersion programme, which aims to increase the awareness and understanding of the challenges of people facing poverty.”

This is the second year the event is being held after it was first staged in 2022, which Anthony described as a big success.

“We raised almost €2,000 with the tractor run, with 72 vehicles taking part, which included cars, scooters, bikes, tractors and more. This year we’ll be hoping for an even bigger turnout, we’ll also have a kids vehicle run where children will lead the run down the the main street in Kingscourt.”

Registration takes place at 3:30pm with the vehicles leaving Kingscourt Community Centre at 4:30pm. Each vehicle costs €20.
