Giving Sunday for St Vincent de Paul

Massgoers in the parishes of Kingscourt, Muff and Corlea are asked to donate nonperishable food items to Saint Vincent de Paul's Giving Sunday, which takes place over the weekend of December 9 and 10.

Cllr Clifford Kelly, president of Kingscourt's St Vincent de Paul, explains more.

"Our annual Christmas appeal is when families in need require support", he said.

"We take the food and make 50 hampers to give to people who need them. It's important that people donate them, with the way things are at the minute, some people are struggling to meet all their commitments so we're doing our best to help as many people as possible. We appreciate any assistance we get from the public."

Cllr Kelly said that there is demand for the hampers.

"There has been an increase in the need for charitable help, it's being felt all over the country. We're only too glad to help people in need. We need a huge response from people. For those who want to give a donation but go to different churches, they can go to our Saint Vincent de Paul shop on Lower Main Street. We're hoping for more donations than ever this year. If anyone wants to apply for help it's a strictly private, confidential process."
