A “number of suspicious devices” were discovered and removed in the Belturbet/Butlersbridge area following searches in the run up to Christmas.

The gardaí were assisted by members of the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) in the search operation at lands and a property in the Annalough area, just off the N3, on December 20.

The Anglo-Celt understands that searches began after lunchtime on Wednesday last week, and carried on for several hours, with road access into the area blocked off.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed the search and operation.

They added: “A number of suspicious devices were located in the course of this search. The services of the Army EOD team were requested who subsequently removed the devices.”

The statement to the Celt informed: “Investigations are ongoing.”
