Funeral details for Tuesday crash victim

Funeral details have been announced for the victim of Tuesday's fatal road traffic collision.

Dad of four Gary Murphy, Garrymore, Ballinagh, and formerly St Martin's Estate, Cavan Town, died when the motorbike he was travelling on was involved in a collision with a second vehicle at approximately 3:10pm on Tuesday, January 2, on the main Cavan to Ballinagh road (N55) at Corlurgan outside Cavan Town.

Aged in his 40's, Mr Murphy was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following the accident Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene, and as part of their ongoing investigation Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, including anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N55 in the Corlurgan area at the time.

Mr Murphy will be reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan on Thursday evening from 4pm until 7pm, with Requiem Mass on Friday morning at 11am in the Cathedral of SS Patrick and Felim. Cremation afterwards in Lakelands Crematorium, Dublin Road, Cavan.

He is survived and deeply missed by his beloved children, Sorcha, Oisin, Meadhbh, Donnacha and their mother Lisa, parents Denis and Kitty, sisters Jenny, Noeleen and Siobhan, brothers Declan and Sean, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends.

In the wake of his death hundreds of people have posted tributes and messages of support to Mr Murphy's bereaved family.

Many remember Mr Murphy as a “gentleman” and a “gentle soul.

“He will be sadly missed,” said one person posting on the Celt Facebook page.
