Power sharing breakthrough welcomed

The decision by the DUP to allow the restoration of the Assembly and Executive in the North has been welcomed by Sinn Féin locally.

Speaking from the European Parliament in Brussels MEP for the Midlands North-West, Chris MacManus has welcomed said: “The people in the north have spent the last two years without a functioning executive. This has had a devastating impact on workers and families. Therefore, I welcome the news that the institutions in the north will be back up and running.

"As a member of the European Parliament’s Delegation to Westminster, I would now like to see the European Parliament and the Assembly, move to a position where engagement between the two institutions is re-established."

Speaking from Stormont, Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA, Jemma Dolan also welcomed the seemingly imminent return of the Assembly and Executive adding: "We must now work together in a spirit of respect and equality in a new Assembly.

"We are determined to lead an Executive that stands up for our public services, workers, and families and against Tory austerity."
