Call for junction boxes in Virginia

The need for two junction boxes in Virginia was highlighted at a recent meeting of the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District.

Putting forward the motion, Fine Gael Councillor T.P. O’Reilly requested yellow junction boxes be created at Bailieborough Road/Virginia junction and at the River Crescent housing estate on the Dublin Road.

Following the meeting, Cllr O’Reilly explained the boxes would work to “alleviate the traffic at the Bailieborough Road junction”.

He outlined that an average of 12,500 vehicles travel through the town of Virginia each day, which makes the ease of movement of traffic an important factor.

While the council agreed to both suggestions, Cllr O’Reilly explained that the process will take time as many factors will need to be addressed.

“There’s a wee bit of surveying to be done for the timing of lights and stuff like that, so that has to be done first. We are working on it,” he said.

“We have another junction box being put in at River Crescent to help those getting in and out of the road,” added Cllr O’Reilly.
