Glitz and glamour to the fore at Oldcastle GFC's Strictly

Lee Healy and Eimear McEnroe clinched the much-coveted win on the night

Glitz and glamour was to the fore last weekend as Oldcastle GFC's Strictly Come Dancing took to the stage at the Hotel Kilmore.

The event was a massive success with over €250,000 raised for north Co Meath club. The standard of dancing was exceptionally high, and the crowd of 1400 people were enthralled by the show.

24 couples took part and while the judges found it difficult to choose a winner, it was the hugely popular young Oldcastle lad Lee Healy, dancing with Castlerahan-Denn’s Eimear McEnroe, who clinched the much-coveted win on the night. The couple danced to ‘I’m so excited’ and there were scenes of jubilation when they emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, Castlerahan was represented in the top three, with their senior player Euan Henry taking second place with partner Kate O’Reilly from Mountnugent, and third spot going to Big Phil’s daughter Aoife Smith, dancing with Harry Ryan!

Oldcastle GFC aims to build a new clubhouse at Millbrook because of increased player numbers and the funds raised from the Strictly event will enable the project to get underway. “This is an amazing start to our project, and we are so grateful to all our dancers, sponsors and everyone who helped us with Strictly,” Club Chairman Dermot Monaghan said.

“Our new clubhouse will turn Millbrook into a family friendly destination for all our members and we look forward now to getting the project started.”
