Aontú completes local election line-up

Aontú has announced the selection of Tinko Tinev, a businessman and care home manager, as its candidate for the Cavan-Belturbet LEA of Cavan County Council.

A Bulgarian national who moved to Ireland with his family more than a decade ago, Mr Tinev has been actively involved in the Pro-Life Movement in Cavan for many years.

Along with owning and managing Cavan Media Productions, a company specialising in corporate brand management, strategy and content creation for social media, the 52-year-old election hopeful introduced himself: “I live in Cavan Town with my partner and five children and I am proud to be an active member of the Cavan community.”

Mr Tinev is also a member of the board of Directors of Cavan County Local Development from 2019 to 2023 and sits on the board of Cavan Credit Union.

Party Leader Peadar Tóibín TD welcomed Mr Tinev to the Aontú fold, stating: “I know his passion and determination will translate into a record as a councillor that the community will be proud of. I look forward to supporting him in Cavan in delivering for people who feel they have been left behind. Aontú are the only credible opposition to this failing Government.”

Sarah O’Reilly, in the Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA, is the party's only current elected representative in Cavan.

At the 2019 election the ex-Fianna Fáil member topped the poll in Bailieborough-Cootehill with 1,704 votes and 15% of the first preferences.

The party line up for election to the local authority is completed by school principal Grainne McPhillips, who also ran last time out in the Ballyjamesduff ED.
