M&C Hybrid Energy Group

Another of the Cavan Women in Business Network members is Carmel Smith from M&C Hybrid Energy Group.

She established the business in 2009 along with her husband Micheál. In the 15 years since its inception, the company has gone from strength to strength as the demand for warmer and more sustainable home heating systems grows.

It has become a one-stop-shop for transforming the energy rating on homes across Co Cavan.

The Smiths led by example when they built their own A-Rated, low energy home in 2010. Using multiple renewable energy technologies, the house now lives mostly off-grid.

M&C Hybrid focuses on helping customers reduce their energy usage, lower their energy bills and decrease their impact on the environment by introducing one renewable energy solution at a time.

“We took a big risk back in 2009 with our investment in the company but it paid off because, as time went by, more and more people became aware of sustainable heating systems and what this would mean for their homes,” said Carmel.

Fast forward to 2024 and the team at M&C Hybrid are busy with work. Heating solutions these days include Solar PV, electric heat pumps and wood pellet stoves.

Retrofitting older homes is also part of the service that M&C Hybrid provides. They advise customers on the various grants available for measures such as insulation, ventilation, panels and heat pumps.

“There are solutions out there for every type of home and something available for everyone. We feel that we are providing an important service for local people, a service that they need. Both myself and Micheál are passionate about renewable energy.”
