Funding worth €1M to local authorities for CCTV schemes

Funding worth €1M will be allocated to local authorities for CCTV schemes. The Government made the announcement for the development of county council led CCTV schemes in specific communities.

Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan Monaghan, Deputy Niamh Smyth said the scheme is designed to promote community safety. “I would encourage all local authorities to create proposals for schemes in their areas,” she continued.

“I would also urge community groups to engage with their local authority to highlight the needs for their locality.” Meanwhile, the scheme has now opened for applications and funding is available to cover new CCTV systems and upgrade existing ones.

Local authorities can also seek a once-off grant of up to €5,000 for minor maintenance costs.To date, grants of over €950,000 have been approved for 35 local CCTV schemes across the country.
