Dubs potentially coming to town as Sam Maguire picture becomes clearer

GAA news

Cavan will face Mayo or Galway away, Dublin or Louth in Kingspan Breffni and Roscommon at a neutral venue in that order following this afternoon’s draw for the group stage of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

Cavan have been drawn in Group 2 with the Leinster champions, Connacht runners-up and Roscommon.

While it’s a difficult draw, Cavan have avoided NFL Division 1 champions Derry who look the strongest third seeds.

One win could potentially be enough to see Cavan advance to the preliminary quarter-finals, with just the bottom side in each group eliminated from the group stage.

Cavan will travel to either Castlebar or Pearse Stadium to play the Connacht runners-up on the weekend of May 18/19. The Connacht final is down for decision between Galway and Mayo this weekend.

Elsewhere, Group 4 looks the least strong on paper, with the Leinster runners-up, Munster champions and Monaghan joining 2023 Tailteann Cup winners Meath.
