Male 20's dead after morning crash

Two vehicle collision happened outside Castleblayney this morning.

A man aged in his 20's has died following a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision in Monaghan earlier this morning.

The crash happened at Moneygorbet, Castleblaney, this morning Thursday, May 9.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.15am this morning involving a car and a van.

The male driver of the car was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body has since been removed to the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem will take place.

A male passenger in the car, also aged in his 20s, was injured. He too has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where he is being treated for what have been described as "non life threatening injuries".

The male driver of the van, aged in this 50s, was removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

The road remains closed at this time and a technical examination of the scene by Forensic Collision Investigators is due to take place.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
