Renters in Cavan and Monaghan benefit from tax credit – O’Reilly
Some 2,890 people in Cavan and 2,420 in County Monaghan have benefitted from the rent tax credit, and the numbers continue to grow since it was introduced, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
“It’s really positive to see that renters in Cavan are availing of their tax credit, which is putting money back in people’s pocket. However, its clear many haven’t made their claim for 2025,” said Senator Joe O'Reilly.
Figures provided from the Department of Finance show that, while 2,890 claimed their renters tax credit in 2024, only 750 so far have made their claim in Cavan in 2025.
“I strongly encourage those eligible who haven’t claimed their rent tax credit for 2025 to do so and apply so they don’t miss out on the valuable support,” urged Sen O'Reilly.
Revenue says it expects the bulk of claims for 2025 will not be made until 2026.
The Rent Tax Credit has been available since 2022 and is worth a maximum of €1,000 euro to renters, while for jointly assessed married couples or civil partners it is worth up to €2,000.
Sen O’Reilly concluded by saying: “No renter should leave this money behind. The process to apply is simple and puts money back into renters’ pockets.”
