Passing of Emyvale undertaker

The man who brought comfort to thousands of mourners over his 30 years as a funeral director has passed away.

Peter McMahon ran McMahon’s Funeral Home on Main Street, Emyvale, providing bereaved families with a 24-hour comprehensive, dignified and sympathetic service.

In his capacity as an undertaker, Peter got to know lots of people, who were grateful for his compassionate approach when they were at their most vulnerable. Peter was also a former publican and proprietor of the Red Boy’s Bar.

He passed away peacefully last Sunday, April 12, at St James Hospital, Dublin, surrounded by his heartbroken family after an illness bravely fought. He was predeceased by his wife Mary.

Tributes to Peter on RIP.ie remembered him as “a wonderful man” and “an absolute gentleman”.

“Peter was a professional and we will never forget his way during our toughest days” read another.

“Every so often a community loses a legend. Peter was truly in that category. Through fun, wit, compassion, empathy and respect Peter left his mark on all who knew him, and on our local parishes.”

Peter's funeral details have yet to be announced.
