Activ8 Solar Energies
Meet our sponsors - Monaghan Business & Tourism Awards
Activ8 Solar Energies continues to play a leading role in Ireland’s renewable energy transformation, delivering innovative solar solutions that empower homes and businesses to take control of their energy future. With more than 20 years of experience and over 25,000 installations nationwide, the company has established itself as Ireland’s largest solar installer, combining engineering expertise, innovation and sustainability to accelerate Ireland’s transition to clean energy.
Activ8 Solar Energies employs more than 300 staff across its headquarters in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, and regional hubs in Naas, Ballinasloe and Cashel. The company’s continued expansion reflects the rapid growth of the renewable energy sector and Activ8’s commitment to creating skilled employment and building expertise within Ireland.
ONE-STOP-SHOP
In 2025, Activ8 further strengthened its offering with the launch of its One Stop Shop, becoming one of only 25 registered providers in Ireland authorised to deliver full home energy upgrades. This service simplifies the process for homeowners seeking to improve energy efficiency by offering a complete package of upgrades under one roof. Through its 50% ownership of Allbrite, Activ8 supports households in moving away from fossil fuels by installing heat pumps, solar panels, insulation, and energy-efficient windows and doors. These upgrades help homeowners reduce energy bills, improve comfort and significantly lower carbon emissions.
Activ8’s growth has also extended beyond Ireland through the acquisition of UK-based Low Carbon Energy, strengthening its commercial renewable energy portfolio. Landmark projects such as Liffey Meats, which features the largest integrated behind-the-meter solar and wind system of its kind in Ireland, demonstrate the company’s ability to deliver complex renewable infrastructure for major industrial clients.
PARTNERSHIPS
Strategic partnerships are also central to Activ8’s success. Through its collaboration with SSE Airtricity, the company enables homes and businesses to generate their own solar energy while benefiting from Ireland’s highest export tariff of 32c per kWh, helping customers reduce energy costs while exporting clean electricity back to the national grid.
In 2026, Activ8 Solar Energies received national recognition for its impact and leadership when it was named Energy & Utilities Winner at the Guaranteed Irish Business Awards. The award celebrates organisations that demonstrate positivity, enterprise, inclusivity and improvements to quality of life in Ireland. Activ8 was recognised for its measurable contribution to increasing solar adoption across the country while creating employment, investing locally and supporting communities through education, sport and climate action initiatives.
AWARD
Further cementing its leadership in the renewable energy sector, Activ8 was also awarded the Green Energy Provider Award 2026 at the Green Business & Sustainability Awards, marking the company’s second consecutive year receiving this prestigious honour. A standout recent project saw Activ8 partner with SSE Airtricity and Gyproc Ireland (Saint-Gobain) to transform a previously unused landfill site in Kingscourt, County Cavan, into a solar energy landmark. The new 2.5MW commercial solar farm features 3,556 Solar PV panels, each rated at 705Wp, producing approximately 2,235 MWh of renewable electricity annually. The installation now supplies around 15% of Gyproc’s electricity needs while preventing an estimated 523 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
Delivered through a funded Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SSE Airtricity, the solar installation required no upfront investment from Gyproc. Under a PPA structure, a solar system is installed, owned and maintained by a provider while the business agrees to purchase the electricity it generates at a fixed, competitive rate over an agreed term. This approach gives companies immediate access to renewable energy, protects them from volatile energy markets, and supports their journey toward net-zero emissions.
At the heart of Activ8 Solar Energies is a clear mission: empowering Irish homes and businesses to reduce emissions, lower energy costs and achieve greater energy independence while helping drive Ireland’s transition towards a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
