Meet our sponsors - Monaghan Business & Tourism Awards

Set amid rolling hills, shimmering lakes, and mature parkland, the Nuremore Estate by McGettigans has long held a special place in the hearts of Irish and international visitors alike.

Now, under new stewardship and sitting on 160 acres of land, this beloved hotel is poised to begin an exciting new chapter - one that blends heritage, hospitality, and sustainability to offer a truly world-class experience.

Extensive redevelopment is well underway to transform the Carrickmacross establishment - formerly known as Nuremore Hotel and Country Club - into a premier lifestyle and leisure destination, with its first phase now opened.

The redevelopment will see comprehensive upgrades to the golf course, leisure centre, spa, wellness spaces, meeting facilities, and guest accommodations.

Whether it is a weekend retreat, a wellness escape, or a golf getaway, the rejuvenated Nuremore will cater to domestic and international tourists seeking authentic Irish hospitality. It will attract wellness-focused travellers embracing rejuvenation and nature at its luxurious spa, which will have an updated tranquil space. Corporate guests in search of a calm and equipped event destination will be very comfortable in the new set-up and most importantly, the local community that have cherished the Nuremore for generations will finally have their safe space back in their midst.

The wonderful redevelopment of the hotel and its grounds will help to create over 100 new jobs in the local Carrickmacross area with the premise promising to make the 78-bedroom hotel a cornerstone once again of the local community and a beacon for Irish tourism.

Another area that the hotel is focused on is its wedding offering. The hotel is nestled on beautiful grounds with mature gardens on the banks of Lough Naglack offering stunning views and an idyllic setting for wedding photography. There is also a private wedding garden and patio area for guests to enjoy and a choice of indoor and outdoor ceremony options for up to 400 guests. It has a one wedding per day policy and 78 guestrooms available at discounted wedding guest rates.

Weddings

Various Wedding packages are available along with tailor-made packages to suit personal tastes and requirements. Second day wedding party options are available should a couple decide to extend their wedding party over a weekend

Deputy Matt Carthy who is local to Carrickmacross has said that the closure of the hotel was a huge blow to the wider area, but the future is bright for the Nuremore as it returns to its former glory.

“Our mission is to breathe new life into this historic property whilst honouring its legacy,” said new owner and CEO of the McGettigan Group, Dennis McGettigan. “We have a bold vision for the future of this wonderful property.”

Dennis McGettigan recognised the huge potential that the hotel has in an amazing part of the country. He remembers the friendliness of the iconic hotel, stopping enroute to Donegal on trips as a child, to visit the place from where his father hailed. “We want to put this place completely back on the map.”

Work on the 78-bed hotel includes a signature McGettigan’s Pub and a refreshed golf course and spa, alongside upgraded rooms and leisure facilities. After purchasing Nuremore in 2025, Mr McGettigan applied for a hotel licence with a bar at the premises – as the previous licence for the property had lapsed.

When asked to outline his experience in the licensing trade, Mr McGettigan said he had been in the hotel and hospitality industry all his life and had qualified in hotel management at the age of just 20 years.

He also said that he currently owned two hotels in Donegal and ran and operated 21 bars in total with his family operating nine hotels. Mr McGettigan outlined his plans at that point to open the hotel on a phased basis starting with the hotel itself before concentrating on the golfing and other facilities.
