Clones road fatality trial to commence

THE trial of a 25-year-old woman charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a pensioner in Clones three years ago is due to start today (Wednesday), April 22, before Monaghan Circuit Court.

Ceara Nolan of Cara Street, Clones, Co Monaghan, is facing one count, alleging that she caused the death of Elizabeth McGoldrick, on the R183 at Clonavilla, Newbliss Road, Clones on April 8, 2023.

Ms Nolan confirmed at the court on Monday that she is pleading not guilty to the charge, which is taken under Section 53(1) of the Road Traffic Act, 1961.

Judge John Aylmer advised the jury of six men and six women that the trial could take two to three days, as a large number of witnesses are listed to give evidence.
