New Garda appointments for region
One promotion and one new assignment have been confirmed in the latest positional shake-up within An Garda Síochána.
Superintendent John Callanan moves from Cavan Town to Bailieborough, taking responsibility for the Louth/Cavan/Monaghan Crime Functional Area under the new three-county policing model, headquartered in Dundalk.
He has served in Cavan since December 2023, and previously worked in Monaghan and Drogheda, as well as leading the Strategic Transformation Office. In 2011, he received a Monaghan People of the Year award for rescuing a young girl at Lake Muckno.
Superintendent Gavin O’Reilly succeeds him in Cavan Town.
A native of Killeshandra, he joined the force in 2005 and has held a range of roles in community policing, traffic, and national security. He has also represented An Garda Síochána internationally, including in the US and with Europol and Interpol.
