Council to honour ‘extraordinary’ Cavan trauma surgeon
Cavan County Council has announced plans to host a formal Cathaoirleach’s Reception to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of trauma surgeon Morgan McMonagle.
The Cavan man, who has devoted part of his career to humanitarian training missions in Ukraine and Gaza, was the 2025 recipient of the RCSI Humanitarian and Community Award.
Earlier this year, he was also chosen as Grand Marshall of Waterford’s St Patrick’s Day Parade.
The proposal to honour him was put forward by Fine Gael’s Niamh Brady at the April council meeting and seconded by Fianna Fáil’s Áine Smith.
“We should be very proud as a county,” Cllr Smith added.
Sinn Féin’s Stiofán Conaty also lent his support.
Honouring U16 Bailieborough team
Celebrating local sporting success, Cavan County Council will also host a reception for Bailieborough Community School’s U16 team following their stunning victory in the Junior B All-Ireland Final.
Two of the team’s standout players now boast a remarkable six All-Ireland medals between them in just two years.
Fianna Fáil’s Clifford Kelly seconded the proposal, which was also supported by Aontú’s Adrian Rogers.
