Speeding motorists detected in Cavan and Monaghan on first day of bank holiday

ON DAY one of another bank holiday weekend, drivers in Cavan and Monaghan have, once again, made it on to An Garda Síochána's list of top speeding motorists.
Notable speeds detected yesterday (Thursday) include a driver travelling at 35 km/h over the limit on the 60km /h Monaghan Road in Castleblayney.
A driver was also detected speeding at 121km/h on the N3 at Belturbet.
Just over 630 drivers were detected for speeding offences during the first day of the operation.
A Garda Roads Policing Operation is taking place throughout the June bank holiday weekend from Thursday, May 28 until Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
During the first day of the operation on Thursday, there were no fatalities as a result of traffic collisions on our roads. The total number of fatalities on Irish roads to date this year is 69.
