Some people taken to hospital, others arrested

Gardaí are dealing with a live incident in Virginia.

The Garda Press Office has confirmed to the Celt this evening that they were alerted to a public order incident on Main Street, Virginia, Co Cavan, just after 5pm this evening (Tuesday), July 21.

A spokesperson said: "Several persons have been conveyed to hospital. Investigations are ongoing."

The Celt understands that a group of youths were involved in a public order incident close to Lough Ramor, which spilled on to the streets of the town.

A large garda presence is being reported on the ground this evening.

A garda source told this newspaper that five juveniles have been arrested for public order offences and are currently being detained at stations in Bailieborough and Cavan for questioning.

Ballyjamesduff accident

Also earlier today, a hit and run was reported in the Ballyjamesduff area involving an e-scooter and a car.

The Garda Press Office confirmed that the accident happened at around 5:30pm this evening.

"Gardaí continue to deal with this investigation, and no further information is available at this time," a spokesperson said.
