Championship wins for Shercock and Cornafean
IFC and JFC action continues
Shercock edged a nervy encounter with Cootehill Celtic this evening on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-13. Both of these teams entered Kingspan Breffni coming off the back of an opening round defeat, but it was Shercock who held their nerve to claim the much needed win.
Cornafean gave their championship hopes a boost by this evening claiming the scalp of many people's favourites for the Intermediate title, Denn in front of a large crowd in Ballinagh. The Reds stormed into a six point lead, but Denn recovered through swift counter-attacks and sneak into the lead at the break. Denn looked likely to assert some modicum of dominance when Nathan Quigley netted a well taken goal, nine minutes into the second half, however as the celebrations subsided an off the ball incident saw a Denn player receive a second yellow and the Crosskeys outfit were reduced to 14. Selfless running and some accurate shooting saw Cornafean make the numerical advantage count, and ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 0-24 to 1-16.
Meanwhile in the junior Championship, Drung bagged seven goals in a facile win over Maghera MacFinns in Lavey.
