Drum residents warned against drinking from public water supply
Uisce Éireann has issued a Do Not Consume Notice for customers supplied by the Drum Public Water Supply in Co Monaghan.
The notice was issued on health grounds due to elevated levels of manganese and iron in the raw water entering the supply. Uisce Éireann stressed it is especially important that mains drinking water is not given to bottle fed infants.
Tankers providing an alternative water supply for customers will be located in Drum Village.
The warning was issued following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE).
They further stress this is not a Boil Water Notice, and advise that boiling the water is not a suitable measure to make the water safe to consume.
“Uisce Éireann is aware of the impact a Do Not Consume Notice has on the community and would like to reassure impacted customers we are working to lift the notice as quickly and as safely as possible,” said Uisce Éireann’s Peter Gallagher.
