Brothers launch inaugural charity music festival

Two local brothers are hoping to bring a new annual music tradition to Cootehill when they host the inaugural Fíana Festival on Saturday, August 1.

Rockcorry natives James and Gearóid O’Brien are the organisers behind the new charity music festival, which will take place this weekend at Breadman’s Bar in Cootehill. The event will showcase some of the most exciting emerging musical talent from across the region.

The festival has been organised with the aim of creating a vibrant day of live music while also supporting an important local cause. All proceeds raised will go directly to Cootehill Cancer Care, a voluntary organisation that provides invaluable support to individuals and families throughout the area.

The brothers said the idea for the festival stemmed from a desire to bring people together through music while giving something back to the local community.

We wanted to create an event that would bring people together, while also giving us the opportunity to support a fantastic organisation that has helped not only our own family, but so many others throughout the locality,” said James O’Brien.

Gearóid O’Brien added: “Live music has always been a huge passion of ours, and being able to provide a platform for young and emerging artists from across Cavan and Monaghan to showcase their talent is a privilege. We hope this festival can become something the community can enjoy and support for years to come.”

The line-up features a diverse mix of artists and bands including Novendors, Gowl, Lil’ Phynott, James Curley, Spine, Millhouse, Calum McKenna, Pat O’Shaughnessy, with a mystery act yet to be revealed. Festival-goers will also be entertained by DJs throughout the day.

As excitement builds ahead of the event, the organisers are encouraging people from Cootehill and the surrounding areas to come along and support what they hope will become a fixture on the local calendar.
