Killanny secured promotion to Senior football for 2027 with a four-point win over Aughnamullen in the Monaghan IFL Final at Inniskeen.

The Geraldines led almost throughout a game that was delayed by more than 50 minutes due to an injury to Killanny's Tomás Quinn early in the second half, with Conaill Marry and John Gartlan bundling home the all-important goals.

After taking nearly ten minutes to open their account, Killanny found their rhythm with a two-pointer by Eddie Walsh and a goal from Conaill Marry.

Aughnamullen got a badly-needed boost when Kieran Duffy punched to the net in the 18th minute, but Killanny deservedly led by 1-6 to 1-2 at half-time.

Aughnamullen's task had been made more difficult by Joel Wilson being sent off late in the first half and although Mark McArdle narrowed the gap, a Conor Vernon point and John Gartlan's opportunistic goal moved Killanny seven clear.

After the long delay, Aughnamullen grew into the game, with Tiernan and Jason Duffy kicking two-pointers, but Gartlan, Walsh and Ronan Grimes replied to see Killanny over the line
