The excitement of the Cavan Junior Championship continues this week with round 3 throwing in on Thursday evening with Belturbet, one of the early pace setters taking on Templeport.

At this early stage of the championship, Belturbet are perched at the top of the table alongside Lacken with two wins from two. Last time out the Rories eased past Drumalee, scoring three goals along the way.

After enduring defeat to neighbours Shannon Gaels courtesy of a late goal, Templeport reset their admirably to brush aside the challenge of Kildallan.

Thursday's other match is the intriguing derby between Redhills and Drung The border team earned a point against Mountnugent last time out in dramatic fashion with Phadraig Smith raising an orange flag at the death. Drung will have learned little from beating Maghera MacFInns, last time out.

Friday evening sees the other Junior team with an unblemished record - Lacken - play Killeshandra. They impressed in dispatching both Drung and Swanlinbar, with threats coming from every corner of the team.

The Leaguers have only had one championship outing, where Declan McKiernan shone brightly registering seven points against Kildallan.

Saturday has only one game Mountnugent against Shannon Gaels. Mountnugent will hope to repeat the form from their entertaining Redhills draw, if not the conclusion.

Sunday meanwhile will see Drumalee and Swanlinbar belatedly try to ignite their championship season. A win for Swanlinbar is crucial if they are to stand a chance of making the knockout phase, whereas Drumalee have a game in hand.
