Mullahoran upset Gaels in SFC opener

Mullahoran 0-17 Cavan Gaels 0-12

Mullahoran caused the first upset of the 2026 Senior Football Championship last night, when they overturned Cavan Gaels at Kingspan Breffni.

The Gaels were favourites going into the game, but from early on it was clear that Mullahoran were up for the challenge.

A two-pointer six minutes into the tie set the tone for Mullahoran, as they built a four-point lead.

Cavan Gaels managed to reel them back in, and by half-time the teams were level at seven points apiece.

After the break, the momentum swung in the Gaels' direction, with a two-pointer in the 35th minute giving them the lead.

To their credit, Mullahoran never back down- and fought their way back into the game, re-taking the lead with a two-pointer with seven minutes to play.

The Gaels had no response, as Mullahoran extnded their lead and finished out 0-17 to 0-12 victors.

Things won't get any easier for Mullahoran, they face Kingscourt in their next game - on Friday, August 14, at 8pm at Kingspan Breffni Park.

Next up for Cavan Gaels is Laragh United, as St. Matthew's Park Crosskeys on Saturday, August 15 at 5pm.
