Impressive CMUL U13 boys team lift Galway Cup

SOCCER CMUL U13 Girls miss out in final

This weekend has been a memorable one of local soccer as Cavan Monaghan Underage League boys U13 claimed the Galway Cup, while the girls at the same age category reached the final.

The Boys U13s held their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out over Galway City outfit Mervue United. Normal time had ended 1-1 with Patrick McCabe of Cootehill Harps scoring the CMUL goal. In the penalties Bobby Marron of Carrick Rovers AFC pulled out a great save to put CMUL in position to claim the cup.

Conor Carolan of Kingscourt Harps was top goalscorer in U13 age category with five goals. He bagged four on match day one as they cruised to a 7-2 victory over Loughall, and scored his fifth in a 6-1 win over Clare on match day 2.

Excelling through out the successful campaign, Odhran Murphy of Monaghan Town FC who won player of the tournament in U13 Boys Club section. This was a feat matched by CMUL's Muireann McSeain in the U13 girls tournament. The Ballyhaise Celtic player was instrumental in her team's surge to the final. CMUL had to content themselves with runners-up medals as KDUL won the final 2-0 to lift the trophy.
