Inniskeen off the mark with Latton win

2025 runners-up Inniskeen began their 2026 SFC campaign with a narrow win at home to Latton in a feisty encounter on Sunday.

Remarkably, this one featured no fewer than a dozen scores from outside the arc, with Inniskeen’s magnificent seven leading them to victory.

It didn’t lack for bite, either, leading to eight yellow cards and one black in total.

Latton were strengthened by returns for Oisín McGorman, Kieran Duffy and Aaron Mulligan, with James and Shane Slevin both coming on, but they paid the price for a slow start that saw them fall eight points down by the 25-minute mark.

Latton only had a single point to their name by that stage, but they found their shooting boots to take a 0-13 to 0-12 through the second half, only for Inniskeen to regain control with a series of long-range scores from Andrew Woods and Seán Jones.

Inniskeen retained 12 of their starting team from the SFC Final, with Dónal Meegan and Shane and Aidan Woods – who had all appeared as subs in Clones last October – in for Conor Gernon, Christopher Hanratty and Ciarán McNulty. The latter duo came on during the second half, with McNulty having just arrived home from Australia last week.
