Blayney stun Clontibret with statement win

All five teams in Group Two of the Greenfield Foods Monaghan SFC are separated by just a single point after Castleblayney produced an excellent win away to Clontibret on Saturday.

Blayney had scored just 1-7 in their second-round loss to Magheracloone, but Paul O’Connor’s side were hugely improved here as they secured their most impressive SFC win for several years. Max McGinnity and Robbie Hanratty led eight scorers for Blayney, who kicked four two-pointers (having landed just one in their previous two games), while their defence dealt well with a Clontibret attack that never got going, despite goals from Conor Boyle and Darragh Keenan.

Ryan McGuigan missed out for the O’Neills, while Dean McDonnell and Darragh Hughes both went off during the first half.

Blayney never trailed throughout the game as they moved onto three points in the group, jumping into second place on score difference.
