Late goal gifts Currin victory against Blackhill

Currin secured their second win of the Junior Football Championship at the death with a last-minute goal from Conor Smyth on Sunday against Blackhill.

The first half was evenly contested, with the sides sharing spells in control, leaving Currin slightly in front at the half-time interval.

After the break, the intensity reached another level, and it wasn't until Smyth's attempted two-pointer dropped short into the net that the visitors claimed the spoils.

The sides were inseparable from the offset. Currin drew first blood as they governed the midfield with Aaron Smyth converting from the floor outside the arc, before his older brother Conor pointed to give his side an early three-point lead.

Blackhill gained traction in the forward line and midfield as they dominated Currin's kickouts and were clinical in front of the posts registering three points and a two-point effort from Darren McElroy to leave the sides level going into the last five minutes of the half.

Currin's younger players wrestled back control for the Scotshouse club, with Aaron Smyth and Killian and Tiarnan Kierans running riot against the back line, to give their side an 0-8 to 0-6 lead at the break.

The well-earned cliché 'end to end football' is well placed to define a second half which went score for score for over 20 minutes.
