Teenager critical in hospital after Longford e-scooter crash

An e-scooter driver in his late teens is in a critical condition and a female passenger, also in her teens, is receiving hospital treatment following a single-vehicle collision in Longford on Friday.

The crash happened on Battery Road in Longford at approximately 10.40pm on Friday night, August 28.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, with both occupants initially taken to Regional Hospital Mullingar for treatment.

The male driver was subsequently transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin due to the seriousness of his injuries.

He remains in a critical condition.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “A male adult driver (aged in his late teens) was conveyed to Regional Hospital Mullingar and subsequently Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He remains in a critical condition.

“A female juvenile passenger (aged in her teens) was conveyed to Regional Hospital Mullingar for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life threatening at the time.”

The road was closed for a period as Garda forensic collision investigators carried out a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are meanwhile appealing for witnesses to come forward as part of their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

Anyone who was travelling in the vicinity of Battery Road, Longford, between 10.15pm and 10.45pm on Friday and may have camera footage, including dash-cam or other recording devices, is asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
