Carrick CCTV tender reissued
A fresh tender has been issued for the long-awaited CCTV system in Carrickmacross centre, with the County Council once again seeking a contractor to install 18 cameras across the south Monaghan town.
The latest procurement notice was published last week, just weeks after an earlier tender was issued, as the council presses ahead with plans for the surveillance system.
The council is seeking a security company licensed by the Private Security Authority (PSA) to supply and install an IP CCTV system and wireless transmission network comprising of 18 cameras at 15 locations around Carrickmacross, including multi-sensor, bullet and dome cameras.
Most of the cameras will transmit footage wirelessly to a CCTV server located in the Market House, while one camera will be hard-wired.
The cameras are planned for a combination of new camera poles, existing public lighting poles and buildings throughout the town.
The latest tender comes after the CCTV project became embroiled in a series of delays earlier this year.
A previous tender came in significantly above the funding available to the council, prompting local officials to review how the project could be delivered and consider ways of reducing the cost.
The cost of delivering the scheme was last put at €229,000 - with Department only funding €40,000 of the total.
Defending the executive’s position, Director of Services for the MD, Cathal Flynn said at the time: “The lowest tender for the CCTV system is €229k. It is not provided for in the budget for 2026. I’ve asked that it be retendered, trying to ensure that we get the best value for money in terms of the system that is proposed.”
The reissued procurement notice indicates that separate contractors will be responsible for the installation of new camera poles, power supplies and associated civil works.
The CCTV contractor will work alongside the civil and electrical contractors during the installation. Cat5 or Cat6 cabling will be provided at the camera locations, while the successful bidder will be responsible for interface boxes, PoE switches, data cabling and the termination of all data cabling.
Monaghan County Council has reserved the right to proceed with some or all of the proposed CCTV locations, and the contract is expected to last three months.
The contract will be awarded under the Most Economically Advantageous Tender (MEAT).
Plans for cameras on Main Street and its environs, Cloughvalley Play Park and St Macartan Terrace were being considered by Monaghan County Council as far back as 2022.
The tender also comes against the backdrop of a wider review of CCTV provision across County Monaghan.
In June, the council invited members of the public to give their views on proposed CCTV schemes at locations around the county.
At the time, the council said the schemes were intended to assist in the deterrence, prevention, detection and prosecution of illegal dumping.
