Shercock win Junior Final

The first title to be won on this Saturday afternoon of ladies football in Breffni Park went to Shercock GFC.

Level at hald time, Killinkere had been struggling to make their mark in the early minutes. Many balls dropping short. The wind might have been a factor, but no excuse for sloppy passes. Then, at bit out of nowhere, like during their season, Shercock picked up the pace and points.

"We just said we need to do what we do best and work the ball through the hands. Our strength is our speed. We just kept at them and tire them out and that's what happened," an elated captain Blanaid Smith said after the match.

"We were fairly bet against Arva, the first game of the season, but we managed a complete turnaround thanks to [coach] Jody," she said.

While holding the line in the backs against the danger team Lola Matthews (0-1) and Caoimhe Brady as well as Kilinkere's County prodigee Ella Sheridan (0-5), Blanaid watched her "phenomenal forward line". Hannah McPhillips picked up player of the match after scoring six points from play for her team, Naoise Fleming and Grace Ruxton added a goal each to the score line. "Savage" was the captains verdict.

For Killinkere it is their second final in a row that they lost. They will be hoping to settle the score next year.
