Truagh have booked their place in the Monaghan Senior Football Championship Final, after beating Clontibret in a six goal thriller in St. Tiernach's Park.

The Gaels will meet local rivals Scotstown in the decider, a repeat of their last appearance in the decider, in 2021.

In an open game of football, there were three goals in the first half, and three in the second half, with Mark Counihan's side opening up a lead in the closing stages.

At half-time Clontibret led 1-13 to 2-7, with Brian Greenan (who scored two goals the last time the sides met) once again netting the O'Neills.

It was entertaining opening half, with five two-pointers, including three for Clontibret's wing-backs Jack Brady (two) and Charlie Mone.

James McKenna bagged Truagh's first goal after four minutes, with Greenan almost denying him with a goal line clearance.

Mone was black-carded in the first half while giving a way a penalty which Chrissy McKenna buried into the top corner.

In the second-half, Truagh got their third goal early on, Seán O'Connell and Gary Mohan linking brilliantly for Mohan to palm into the net.

Within minutes, Aaron Carey got the games fifth goal from a penalty, wrong footing Truagh's sub keeper Caolan McGee, who came on after Shane Clerkin went off injured.

The sixth goal came from the next play, with wing-back Caolan Tracey slamming in off the crossbar to make it 4-7 (19) to 2-13 (19).

Truagh opened up a seven point lead there after, Luke H McKenna providing the crucial scores that got the Gaels in front.

Clontibret threatened to force their way back into the game with some excellent long range kicking, from goalkeeper Darren McDonnell, but the Gaels held on for victory.
