Cavan Senator welcomes reduction in carbon tax on home-heating oil

Senator Joe O’Reilly welcomed the "efforts to support people" with the "challenge" of day-to-day spending in Budget 2027, one of those being the reduction in carbon tax on home heating oil.

“Heating oil remains a necessity rather than a choice. No family should have to worry about whether they can afford to keep their home warm during the winter.

"I welcome the Government's efforts to lower these costs for people in rural Ireland," Senator Joe O'Reilly stated.

“This effort to lower costs ensures that vulnerable households are not left facing impossible choices between heating their homes and meeting other essential costs the upcoming winter.”

Senator O’Reilly said he has raised concerns over the cost of heating oil in the past.

“I am happy to have brought attention to this issue in the past because heating oil remains a necessity rather than a choice. No family should have to worry about whether they can afford to keep their home warm during the winter.

He said for people in rural communities like Cavan, energy policy must be "grounded in practical realities" such as "keeping homes warm".
