Shock and sadness as Carrick mourns Shane Irwin

A Carrickmacross family is mourning the sudden death of Shane Irwin following an accident in Perth, Australia.

Mr Irwin, from Bocks Upper, Carrickmacross, died on Monday, October 5, 2026. He had been living in Perth and had a wide circle of friends in both Ireland and Australia.

He is remembered for his fun-loving nature and cheeky smile. Former classmates from Lisdoonan National School were among those expressing their sympathy, while condolences were also extended to his relatives and friends in Carrickmacross and Perth.

His death has brought sadness to the extended McGuinness and Irwin families and to the many people who knew him at home and abroad.

Donations in Mr Irwin’s memory may be made to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

He is survived by his parents, Bob and Helen; his brothers, Cathal, Aidan and Keith; his sister, Lisa; Cathal’s partner, Tegan; and his extended family. He was predeceased by his sister Katie, who died in infancy, and by his grandparents Kathleen and Michael McGuinness and Bob and Kitty Irwin.
