Thirteen new gardaí assigned to Cavan and Monaghan

Thirteen new probationary gardaí have been posted to Cavan and Monaghan following last week’s graduation at the Garda College in Templemore.

They are among 207 probationer gardaí who were given their new assignments last week.

Six have been assigned to Bailieboro, five to Carrickmacross, and one each to Cavan and Monaghan stations.

Government party politicians have welcomed the additional personnel for the local division.

Senator Robbie Gallagher, himself a former garda, said the allocation means “more gardaí on our streets and stronger, safer communities”.

He said that high visibility policing remains a “strong commitment” for Fianna Fáil. “Visible policing plays a vital role in preventing crime, supporting victims, and providing reassurance to our communities,” he said.

The latest attestation sees An Garda Síochána reach its highest numbers of sworn members since the foundation of the State at 14,980. It also follows an unprecedented allocation of over €2.75bn to An Garda Síochána in Budget 2027.

Minister of State Niamh Smyth said the new gardaí are “real additions” to frontline policing in our towns.

“We now have more gardaí than at any point in the history of the State, and the pipeline is continuing to grow with further recruits entering the College next week. This is sustained investment, not a one-off.”
