Over 120 e-scooters and bikes seized and 13 arrested in major Dublin Garda operation

Gardai have conducted a high-impact policing operation across all six divisions of the Dublin Metropolitan Region on Wednesday, October 21.

Operation Meacán targeted the illegal use of e-scooters, e-bikes, scramblers and Surron-type bikes for criminal activity.

This operation incorporated multiple units of An Garda Síochána, including the Garda Detective and Crime Functional Area Units, Drugs Units, Air Support Unit, Dog Unit, Drone Unit and Garda Community policing.

As part of Operation Meacán, Gardai conducted 80 warrant-based property searches and seized 122 e-scooters, e-bikes, scramblers and Surron bikes. Over €95,000 worth of suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis were seized, and 13 persons arrested in relation to separate criminal incidents.

Assistant Commissioner Roberts of the Dublin Metropolitan Region said: “Today’s Operation Meacán activities targeted the illegal use of Personal Powered Transporters (PPT’s) through enforcement using Uniform and plain-clothes members from across the Dublin region, supported by Specialist Regional and National Garda Units. This enforcement took place using proactive patrols, static traffic checkpoints and intelligence-led operations to ensure a tiered approach to tackling not only those who would use these PPT’s dangerously on our roads, but also to stop those who would use them in the commission of serious crimes such as drug-related intimidation, thefts, assaults and drug dealing in our cities and our communities.”

Gardai say that operations remain ongoing.
