Holy Family School appeal for funds for minibus

The Holy Family School Parents Association in Cootehill has launched an important online fundraising campaign to purchase a new school minibus. The school caters for pupils with learning disabilities and those with autism across Cavan and Monaghan. Funds are now required to provide pupils with a new multi-passenger, fully accessible minibus.

The fundraiser is necessary because the school doesn’t receive any Government funding towards the purchase price of the vehicle, which parents and teachers feel is of “vital importance” to school users.

The Parents Association say the bus will allow all children to participate in trips and outings in the wider community, subsequently strengthening their independence regardless of ability or disability.

Martina Young is a parent to Dearbhla and has emphasised what the bus will mean for the children.

“This fundraising drive is a huge undertaking for a small committee but, as parents of these special children, we are determined that we will achieve our target and ensure the pupils can continue to get the benefits of experiencing life outside of school with their peers and strive within the community, which is vital to them.

“I would also take this opportunity to appeal to the wider community to please make a donation. Every euro raised will get us closer to our target of €73,000.”

Almost €6,000 has been raised so far.
