Support growing for Heather Humphreys Áras bid
Independent TDs come out in support of Heather Humphreys
SPECULATION over whether former Cavan-Monaghan TD Heather Humphreys will come out of retirement and run for president is mounting with one media outlet reporting she is giving the issue 'very serious consideration'.
A snap Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks poll today shows that the election has been thrown wide open by the decision of Fine Gael frontrunner Mairead McGuinness to withdraw on health grounds.
And also according to the national newspaper, Heather Humphreys told reporters: 'To tell you the truth, I’m giving a run very serious consideration. I’m using my time to speak to the people I trust and the people who know me best, both inside and outside politics, before I make a final decision.'
Meanwhile, a number of Independent TDs have come out to offer their support to Heather Humphreys for the presidential role.
Independents Michael Healy-Rae, Noel Grealish and Seán Canney have all expressed their support for Heather Humphreys in any potential presidential bid.
