Night-time water restrictions continue in Cavan Town

Households and businesses on the public water supply in Cavan Town are bracing themselves for a fourth night of water restrictions due to mechanical issues at the local treatment plant.

Uisce Éireann is appealing to customers in the county town and the surrounding areas to conserve water as night-time restrictions continue in an effort to help maintain a daytime supply.

From last Monday night, restrictions were introduced on the Cavan Public Water Supply and will continue nightly from 10:30pm until 7am the following morning, until further notice. However, normal supply will be maintained to the local hospital.

Uisce Éireann’s Peter Gallagher thanked affected customer for their understanding while these restrictions are in effect and again appealed to customers to reduce their water usage where possible.

“I am again appealing to all our customers in Cavan Town and surrounding areas to make a special effort to conserve water,” he said.

“We understand the impact of overnight restrictions, but these measures are necessary to ensure continuous daytime supply for homes and businesses while we allow the reservoir levels time to recover,” added Mr Gallagher.

Mr Gallagher emphasised how simple actions and measures can help. These include taking a shorter shower, placing a basin in the sink and fixing leaking taps.

Uisce Éireann has developed an easy-to-use conservation calculator to help people find out how much water they are saving and what they can do to save even more. Check it out at water.ie/calculator.ie
