MEET OUR FINALISTS: BEST GREEN BUSINESS
Wilton Recycling is at the forefront of County Cavan’s drive towards environmental sustainability. From its Ballyjamesduff base the family run business has grown to now span five facilities across the country, employing over 150 staff. Having started out solely as a skip hire business almost 20 years ago, they now provide essential recycling and waste services to homes, farms, and businesses.
Wilton Recycling Sales Manager Tom Connolly stressed they are “honoured” to be nominated in the Green Business category and laid out the Company’s impressive green credentials at the recent awards pitch night held in the AIB in Cavan Town.
“We operate with a 100% waste recovery mandate, transforming materials like scrap metal, end-of-life vehicles, plastics, paper, and WEEE into new resources. We produce Solid Recovered Fuel, recover shredded metals, and feed recycled materials back into industry.
“We’ve planted over 45 acres of forestry and developed a dedicated biodiversity zone beside our main facility. It features wildflower meadows, a wildlife pond, bee hives, and native saplings — supporting pollinators, wildlife, and natural regeneration while helping to offset carbon emissions.”
They have also invested in rainwater harvesting, EV chargers, LED lighting upgrades, and green sourced energy monitoring across their sites. In addition, Wilton Recycling has introduced green staff incentives, discounted services for employees, and they continue to invest in education around sustainability.
“One of our biggest steps forward is the rollout of solar PV systems across all five Wilton facilities – significantly reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and switching to clean, renewable energy,” explained Tom.
The commitment they have show in environmentalism is matched by their commitment to community.
“Through our Supporting Club & County campaign, we’re also helping local GAA clubs raise funds – providing complimentary bin collections for all Cavan clubs and donating €100 for every new household bin customer who signs up and nominates their respective club.”
In operating its business, Wilton Recycling is certified as meeting the exacting industry standards.
